In line with KTH's goal of a future sustainable society, this project focuses on the sustainable goal Clean and Affordable Energy. It is an important milestone towards a climate-neutral society.
In detail, this project aims to increase the energy efficiency in the industry by finding how to design a new material class with exceptional heat transfer properties. In most thermal processes, "Pitch" denotes the temperature difference between the hot (cold) source and the hottest (coldest) point in the process. In fact, a large Pitch means low thermal efficiency.
The technical objective is to create a material that enables effective minimization of heat transfer. For this purpose, we will use CFD simulations of flow and heat transfer in candidate heat transfer geometries. Post-doc will develop geometries, create numerical networks, run heat transfer and conjugate heat transfer simulations, analyse and report results. Given the large number of interesting cases, part of the workflow will be automated.

A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume). The field of the degree should be chemical, mechanical, process or energy technology (or equivalent). We are looking for candidates with good research qualifications and a scientific skill. You must have a strong background in at least one of the following areas: numerical heat transfer, simulation of chemical reactors, simulation of chemical processes, simulation of thermodynamics, combustion simulations or turbulence simulations. You should be able to use CFD tools (ANSYS or OPENFOAM) to predict flow, mass and heat transfer. Proficiency in English orally and in writing is required to present and publish research results. The working language will be English.
In addition to the requirements above, experience of chemical process simulations is a preferred qualification.
Personal characteristics
You are a motivated person with the ability to cooperate, who can work independently and plan an effective task. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills are a requirement as well as being able to devote oneself to the project and meet milestones. Besides that, you have an awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
You will find contact information to trade union representatives at KTH's webbpage.
