Third-cycle subject: Civil and architectural engineering with a specialization of hydraulics and engineering hydrology.
Globally, renewable energy is available to a sufficient extent to cover human needs. Problems, however, is to ensure electrical transmission and storage of energy to avoid power shortages. This project studies the usefulness of Swedish and European hydropower as a storage resource with regard to the internationalization of the electricity markets and the importance of climate fluctuations for the availability of solar, wind and hydropower. A purpose is to evaluate the covariation between the energy types and climate indices, as well as to develop new objective functions in operational, planning models for energy production.
We are looking for candidates that have a five-year university degree with a focus on engineering science, including mathematics-statistics, hydrology and geosciences. You will be working with data from small-scale hydropower in collaboration with researchers from the Dept. of Sustainable development, environmental science and engineering (KTH), Division for Electric Power and Energy Systems (KTH), Swedish National Grid (SvK) and Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI).
The funding for this project is provided by the the Swedish Energy Agency.
