Job description

A technician is sought for the mechanical workshop at AlbaNova University Centre.AlbaNova houses Physics, Astronomy and Biotechnology activities conducted at both KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University. The mechanical workshop is a common resource for all research and teaching activities at AlbaNova. This position is placed at the Department of Physics at the school of Engineering Sciences.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence. 

You should have a good background in working in a mechanical workshop environment and be well acquainted in the manual production of high precision items using, e.g., lathes and milling machines, as well as hand-tools. Experience with design using CAD tools and CAM is also of importance. Other skills, such as welding and sheet metal working, are also of interest. You should have an inquisitive nature and enjoy solving the challenging, and often loosely defined, problems presented by researchers. You will be engaged in projects which are often collaborative efforts between researchers in Sweden and abroad, and industrial partners. You should enjoy working independently and as part of a team. Time management skills are required as you will be involved in several projects concurrently. Owing to the international working environment at AlbaNova, good knowledge of both written and spoken Swedish and English is required. Applicants should have a high-school education in workshop technology (“verkstadsteknisk gymnasieutbildning”), or have acquired equivalent experience from workplace training. Candidates shortlisted for this position will be required to complete an evaluation of practical skills as part of the interview process.
