Third-cycle subject: Engineering Mechanics
Production of ultra high pressures and temperatures in fluids is of great interest to a multitude of phenomena in nature, technology and medicine. The major goal of this project is to investigate the fundamental properties of strong shock implosion leading to extreme compression of fluids in a laboratory environment. It aims at further development of the shock generation techniques by means of HV electrical wire explosion. Using sophisticated experimental equipment, including high-speed schlieren visualization, spectroscopy, and other advanced diagnostics, we aim at exploring both experimentally and numerically, the efficiency of energy concentration by imploding shocks and behavior of various matter under such conditions.
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Associate Professor Michael Liverts and Professor Nicholas Apazidis
