Job description

The researcher will be employed at the unit of integrated product development and design, department of machine design, at the School of Industrial Engineering and Management. At the unit, the goal is to educate within and develop new knowledge for sustainable products and services, where great emphasis is placed on the knowledge being able to be effectively put into practice. We do this in collaboration both with other parts of KTH and with stakeholders from different sectors in society. The goal of the research position is to contribute to research and to teaching at the unit.

The purpose of the position is to develop and implement research:

  • Based on a deep understanding of users' needs, behaviors and practices where appropriate methods and tools for user-centered design are used
  • Using iterative design methods and design interventions to prototype, test and demonstrate new opportunities and new services within sustainable integrated transport systems
  • That will lead to opportunities for sustainable future by involving stakeholders from companies, public organizations and citizens in innovative projects

In addition to research, you will participate in teaching courses that are linked to sustainable products and services.

Qualifications

Requirements

We are looking for a person who is analytical and creative in their work, with good ability to work independently and take their own initiative. Of course, it’s important that you have a very good working ability because you will have many contact areas in the position. Furthermore, you have an educational interest and experience of teaching.

For the position a doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree is required with a clear competence profile against service design / user-centered design within mobility / sustainable transport systems. To qualify for the position, you must have taken your PhD degree no later than 3 years ago. Furthermore, you must:

  • Have knowledge of user-centered methods such as design-ethnographic interviews, co-creation, workshops, convivial tool, service design methods and tools
  • Be well versed in research on sustainability change, especially related to sustainable integrated transport systems.
  • good practical experience of working with practice-based design research in multidisciplinary teams with a focus on research results being utilized in practice
  • Be able to demonstrate that you have a good ability to publish in expert reviewed scientific journals
  • Have previous experience of working with design and sustainability in the industry or public activities outside the academy.
  • Good teaching ability with experience from developing courses in relevant areas
  • Good ability to creating opportunities for collaborations between academia and surrounding society
  • Be able to express yourself very well in Swedish and English, both orally and in writing

Preferred qualifications

It is meritorious if you have developed national or international research networks Furthermore, it is advantageous if you have training in leadership or project management.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency. Documented knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality is also an advantage.
