Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering
The overall goal of the project is to understand the benefits of establishing wireless communication networks along roads, for the use of connected vehicles and connected transport services. Above all, we want to find out what the need is for 5G / 6G and what effects it could have on the transport system. The work is largely about technical requirements for the connectivity and the deployment of communication networks, focusing on advanced applications such as self-driving vehicles and shared sensor data. The societal benefits that can be achieved must also be evaluated and economic and business-related aspects must be taken into account. The work includes both theoretical work, simulation and experiments / prototyping.
The project is carried out in an interdisciplinary context with a lot of collaboration with external parties from the telecom, automotive, and transport industries as well as traffic authorities. The doctoral student will be active in the research center ITRL - Integrated Transport Research Lab, https://www.itrl.kth.se
Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by: Jonas Mårtensson
