KTH Royal Institute of Technology, School of Engineering Sciences

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Physics, specialization Nuclear Engineering

The Division of Nuclear Power Safety conducts research on accident phenomena of risk importance to existing and future nuclear reactors, and also performs safety analysis for nuclear power plants, including design basis accident analysis and severe accident analysis. The research projects involve extensive international cooperation.

We are looking for up to two doctoral students to carry out frontier research on the following topics:

  • Severe accident phenomena in light water reactors; and
  • Safety analysis of nuclear power plants.

The successful candidates are expected to (i) conduct experimental and analytical studies on fuel coolants interactions and debris coolability, which are important for severe accident risk assessment and management of light water reactors; and (ii) perform safety analysis of nuclear power plants using best estimate plus uncertainty approaches, and assess severe accident management measures.

Supervision: The doctoral student will be supervised by Professor Sevostian Bechta and Assoc. Professor Weimin Ma.
