School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Vehicle engineering

The Lightweight structures group are recruiting a doctoral student to continue developing a framework for sustainability-driven structural optimization. The research requires knowledge in structural design, both within metallic structures (among other, high-strength-steel (HSS)) and fibre-reinforced composites. In addition, knowledge is needed on aspects of manufacture and optimization for both material families. The research is performed through finite element (FE) modelling, programming and the development of seamless integration between different software suites including Python, Matlab, Abaqus as well as in-house developed software. It is beneficial if the applicant has experience in lifecycle costing (LCC). The research is performed within different research projects in collaboration with industry and material end users. To cover this multidisciplinary research field, the supervision will be performed by a group of researchers and faculty, led by Professor Malin Åkermo.
