Subject description

The subject area includes the studies of generation, propagation or control of sound and vibrations, with applications within complex mechanical structures, systems, materials and media. The research involves methodology development and a combination of numerical and experimental studies.

Duties

The position includes research and education in the subject area. Within research the associate professor is expected to form new networks internally at KTH and externally, and actively apply for research funding. The associate professor is expected to contribute to development of the subject area. Teaching will be at all levels, i.e. at first, second and third cycle level, including supervision of master and doctoral theses work. This includes the development of existing and new courses. The associate professor will also contribute to the development of educational programmes at the department. Some administrative duties are also included. The associate professor is expected to teach in Swedish within three years. A language development plan will be implemented at the start of employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will be involved , and
  2. demonstrated pedagogical skills.

Grounds of assessment
The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field, including the ability to establish new research collaborations nationally as well as internationally
  • pedagogical skills and teaching experience in the subject field

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • ability to collaborate and interact with the surrounding society and disseminate research and development work.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise
  • interpersonal skills.
