School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

Working with plant tissue or whole plants does not always allow us to improve our understanding of unique biological properties of specific plant cell types. In the case of animal cells, analysis of simplified model systems has been extensively performed to better understand complex biological processes. In comparison, similar approaches to better understand plant cells have not yet been as extensively established. In this project the aim is to further develop assembly protocols of artificial model plant cells (Plantosomes, Nature Communication 2020) using microfluidics. These biomimetic structures will possess certain properties and functions found in real plant cells.

The project focuses on microfluidics fabrication and characterization development in order to provide plant cell models that can be used for deeper understanding of the inherent properties of the cell wall, lipid membranes and integral membrane proteins in natural plant cells.

The present project will be in close collaboration with Malmö University , Sweden, and the Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. Results will be published in scientific journals and presented at international conferences.

This is a 2 year Postdoc position. There will later be a Researcher position for 1 year announced as a continuation of the same project.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Works in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • An international project.
