Subject description

The subject includes Industrial Ecology focused on environmental science, climate, systems thinking with regard to products and processes, material and energy flows, as well as strategies, goals and instruments for, and implementation of, sustainable development.

Duties

The work mainly includes teaching at the BSc (first cycle) level in sustainable development linked to the subject area, but also includes providing support for courses at the advanced (MSc; second cycle) level and potentially opportunities for research as part of a research group / teaching team.

The work involves planning, leading, and conducting courses in the subject area, in close collaboration with other staff, mainly at the BSc level. At the BSc level, teaching is conducted in Swedish. At the MSc level, the lecturer can also play an important role in courses in English through e.g. individual course elements or lectures.

The work also includes developing new courses or course elements in sustainable development. Responsibility for the bachelor's degree course and supervision of degree projects at basic (BSc) and advanced (MSc) level can be included in the work tasks. The duties may also include examiner responsibilities, educational program management responsibilities and / or study directorship.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as a lecturer are persons who have:

  • 1) been awarded a degree from first-cycle academic education within the subject of the employment or has corresponding competence,
  • 2) professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve, and
  • 3) demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as lecturer at KTH are stated in KTH's appointment procedure, section 1.5, and apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • documented pedagogic competence including the ability to lecture to groups of different sizes and supervise students in projects and degree projects. The assessment of teaching expertise shall also relate to the person’s long-term ability to develop as a teacher.
  • documented subject expertise (broad as well as in-depth) relevant to the content of the employment.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities
  • courses in teaching and learning in higher education
  • administrative expertise
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and interpersonal skills. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • postgraduate degree in the area relevant to the course activities
  • documented professional expertise relevant to the content of the employment.
  • professional expertise outside the university
  • expertise in respect of development work within the area.
