School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

The Department of Industrial Biotechnology at KTH provides societally relevant biotechnological solutions for sustainable production of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, materials and fuels, as well as contributing to clean water and environment. Biocatalysis has a long history at the department and the activities comprise enzymological studies for the utilization of enzymes in organic synthesis of fine chemicals and tailoring of the enzymes for production of various chemical products. Enzyme stability, specificity and stereoselectivity are important properties to understand and manipulate.

The overall purpose of this research project is to design stable aminotransferases and explore the mechanism for destabilization. The project involves:

  • Structural studies of various transaminases and in silico simulations of enzyme-cofactor dissociation mechanisms.
  • Production of enzyme variants and characterization of these.
  • Conduct biocatalytic reactions and analyses, and analyse enzymological data.

The post doc will communicate scientific progress within the Biocatalysis group at the Department of Industrial Biotechnology and with our collaborators, as well as disseminate the project results through oral presentations, scientific publications and through information for a general audience. In addition to the research, the post doc will contribute to supervision of MSc students and PhD students and do some teaching and supervision at laboratory courses at the masters level within Biocatalysis. The postdoc will also assist in writing of applications for research funding.
