Subject description

The subject focuses on the mechanisms behind technical and industrial change processes. It includes studies of innovation management and business systems with the aim of creating economically, environmentally and socially sustainable products and services.

Duties

In education, the employment includes teaching at the basic and advanced level as well as supervision of doctoral students. In research, the Associate Professor is expected to conduct independent research and actively seek funding for this. An important aspect is to contribute to the development of industrial economics as a whole in interdisciplinary research and joint teaching commitments. In addition, the development of the department's other activities as well as taking responsibility for faculty assignments at the university are included.

The Associate Professor’s activities are expected to contribute to meeting KTH's goals within sustainable development and gender equality, diversity, and equal conditions. The Associate Professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If needed, a language support plan will be devised as support at the time of employment.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve-, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise. 

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an Associate Professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field, demonstrated e.g. through publications in leading journals and active participation in conferences in the subject area. This includes the ability to obtain external research funding.
  • pedagogical skills, which include teaching of high quality, and of significant volume, at undergraduate, advanced and postgraduate level in the subject field.

Of second highest importance iis that the applicant has

  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff.
  • interpersonal skills.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a special focus on gender equality.
  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work.
  • administrative expertise.
