School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

Machine learning algorithms are currently being used in many high-stakes decision-making processes, such as in medical and legal applications. In these domains, besides accuracy, machine learning implementations are also subject to requirements on trust, privacy, unbiasedness, interpretability, transparency, and accountability, among others.

This postdoc position will involve the development of machine learning methods that account for these diverse requirements. The work will focus mostly on dynamical systems, and consider, for example, the design of computer-intensive algorithms for optimal estimation of models for such systems, subject to the aforementioned constraints, and the determination of internal models used by agents or controllers acting on a dynamical system, in order to exploit them for learning optimal, interpretable agents.

This postdoc position is part of an interdisciplinary collaborative project, funded by the Strategic Research Environments Digital Futures, which involves KTH, RISE and Stockholm University. The project involves the development of explainable machine learning techniques to analyze healthcare data and provide diagnosis and recommendations of treatments for patients. This goal lies at the intersection of several disciplines, including machine learning (inverse reinforcement learning), time series analysis, privacy and trust (from a legal perspective) and how humans understand and interpret data.
