Risk management and design of structures in soil and rock.
The subject area comprises geotechnical engineering with a specialisation in risk management and design of structures in soil and rock for resource-efficient and sustainable construction. The subject area also includes design and risk management of geotechnical structures such as road and railway embankments, steep slopes, tunnels, rock caverns and dams. The specialisation combines soil and rock mechanics with probabilistic methods for the design of geotechnical structures, analyses of geotechnical uncertainties and risks, and environmental engineering.
The associate professor is expected to teach in geotechnical engineering at the first-, second- and third-cycle levels, this involves, among other things, serving as course-responsible teacher and examiner, developing courses and supervising degree projects. Administrative duties are also included. The job duties also include conducting research in the subject area, serving as principal supervisor and assistant supervisor for doctoral students, as well as applying for research funding and serving as project coordinator. The associate professor is further expected to collaborate both within KTH's academic environments related to research and teaching and with societal actors in the industry. The associate professor is expected to be able to teach in Swedish within three years. If necessary, a language plan will be established to assist in this at the time of appointment.
