Fundamental research should be conducted in the area of information theory and statistical inference/learning. The goal is to study how information theoretic concepts can be applied to statistical inference and learning problems. How can coding theorems and converse results be used to establish fundamental bounds on statistical inference and learning problems? How can concepts from distributed decision making in networks with non-classical information patterns be transferred to standard machine learning settings? The ideal candidate has a doctoral degree in information theory and/or statistical inference or learning along with a strong publication record.
Beyond the close collaboration with the supervisors, the candidate will have the opportunity to get engaged in supervision of master and/or doctoral students and collaboration with colleagues in the environment as well as international research collaborations. In particular, research collaboration will be done with Dr. Maël Le Treust, CNRS. The dynamic environment will offer other opportunities to support the development of the academic career of the candidate.
