Job description

Fundamental research should be conducted in the area of information theory and statistical inference/learning. The goal is to study how information theoretic concepts can be applied to statistical inference and learning problems. How can coding theorems and converse results be used to establish fundamental bounds on statistical inference and learning problems? How can concepts from distributed decision making in networks with non-classical information patterns be transferred to standard machine learning settings? The ideal candidate has a doctoral degree in information theory and/or statistical inference or learning along with a strong publication record.

Beyond the close collaboration with the supervisors, the candidate will have the opportunity to get engaged in supervision of master and/or doctoral students and collaboration with colleagues in the environment as well as international research collaborations. In particular, research collaboration will be done with Dr. Maël Le Treust, CNRS. The dynamic environment will offer other opportunities to support the development of the academic career of the candidate.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline (With some exceptions for special reasons such as periods of sick or parental leave, kindly indicate if such reason exists in your resume)
  • Fundamental research experience in information theory and/or statistical inference and learning
  • Well-developed analytical skills and good command of English orally and in writing

Preferred qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in information theory and/or statistical inference or learning.
  • Publication record that shows a strong research ability
  • Creativity, independence, and motivation as well as well-developed ability to work collaboratively
  • It's commendable if you can demonstrate teaching abilities and an awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.

About the employment

The position offered is for, at the most, two years.

A position as a postdoctoral fellow is a time-limited qualified appointment focusing mainly on research, intended as a first career step after a dissertation.
