Subject description

The subject for the employment is mathematics with specialization to algebra, combinatorics (discrete mathematics) or number theory. Algebra and combinatorics are meant in a broad sense, in particular are both algebraic geometry and algebraic topology included.

Duties

Duties include research, teaching, student supervision and administration. The teaching duties will correspond to 30% of the working time.

This is a tenure-track position. The assistant professor will be given time to develop independence in research in order to earn the merits needed for a promotion to associate professor (see chapter 4 § 12a in högskoleförordningen). The assistant professor shall after sending in an application be considered for promotion to associate professor.

Eligibility

A person is eligible for appointment if they have attained a Degree of Doctor or have the equivalent academic expertise. Primarily, persons should have attained a Degree of Doctor or have acquired the equivalent expertise no more than seven years before the end of the application period. 

Grounds of assessment

Significant weight is given to research expertise shown through international publication. Special weight will also be put on the applicant’s pedagogical skills and ability to contribute to the education in Mathematics. The assessment of applicants for this position will be based on the applicants’ long-term development potential. The applicant's ability to establish and develop collaborations in both research and education is of great importance.

To have experience from research environments other than KTH is considered to be of significant weight. It is important that the applicant has ability to take responsibility for changing and renewing his/her research activities and establish an independent research activity.

The applicant's experience of developing and leading activities and personnel will also be considered. This includes having knowledge about matters of diversity and equal treatment, with particular focus on gender equality. The ability to collaborate with the surrounding society and to disseminate information regarding research and development work shall also be included as grounds for the appointment.

Special grounds of assessment for promotion to associate professor

When assessing applications for promotion to associate professor, the applicant's ability to independently initiate and carry out research of high academic quality, published in international publications, and the applicant's ability to obtain financing for research operations will be assessed. One special ground for assessment is the applicant's ability to independently establish new collaborations and research specializations.

Special consideration will be given to proven teaching and supervising expertise. The ability to teach in Swedish is considered as a significant asset when applying for promotion.

Form of employment: Time limited, four years

Start time: According to agreement

Time limitation: The appointment is for an indefinite term, but no more than four years, and may be extended if, due to the teacher’s absence due to sick leave, parental leave or other special grounds, more time is required to reach the objectives of the appointment. However, the total appointment period may not exceed six years.
