School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at KTH

Job description

Edge computing is a new computing layer, providing substantial computing and storage resources near users, end systems and applications, and is expected to address the limitations of centralized cloud computing systems (delay, availability, bandwidth, privacy) and embedded systems (computational capabilities, coordination). It will be a core enabler of novel applications, such as smart manufacturing, run over 5G mobile.

Our research group is focusing on research paving the way for novel edge computing systems and applications, emphasizing challenges related to predictability, safety, and security of edge systems and collocated mobile networks. This research agenda is facilitated through a world-leading research center on edge computing at KTH – TECoSA (https://www.tecosa.center.kth.se/) as well as a significant multi-year fund to establish an experimental research facility in the area of edge computing and related applications. We are seeking in this call postdoc candidates with the ambition to lead experimental research in this domain. The position comprises, on the one hand, research on enabling applications such as intelligent transportation, industrial robotics or safe augmented reality, for edge computing systems. On the other hand, research in the direction of future mobile network architectures and algorithms (beyond 5G systems) is of interest to us. A solid track record in experimental research, for instance in the context of software defined radio networks, and/or edge applications and/or federated machine learning is beneficial. Candidates with a stronger theoretical profile in the aforementioned areas are also invited to apply if they envision to expand their portfolio into the experimental domain. The position involves collaborations within our research group as well as with other research groups from different disciplines. It will also comprise collaborations with industrial partners.
