Graphite is widely used in process industries, E-mobility and digitation. Its consumption is increased rapidly due to the increasing production of lithium-ion batteries globally. Especially the graphite demand in Swedish metallurgical industries is going to increase due to the fossil-free steel production, which EAF-Electrical Arc-Furnace process is increased. Today all used graphite comes from natural graphite mines or fossil-based artificial production. The main scope of this position is to develop a low-energy consumption and a low-CO2-emissions, a high resource efficiency process to produce fossil-free graphite, which can be used for electrodes in EAF and anodes in battery application. In this position, the work starts from screening the catalysts for graphitization of biochar, then optimization of the process parameters will be further conducted, Final, a process from biomass to graphite shall be developed.

The successful applicant should have documented knowledge of waste and/or biomass pyrolysis, or gasification, and well catalyst used for biomass thermal conversion. Knowledge and experience in using all instruments, such as GC/MS, XRD, SEM are considered as a merit.

Target degree: Doctoral degree
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
