Third-cycle subject: Electrical Engineering
The Division of Decision and Control Systems is currently looking for on doctoral student with a very strong background and interest in control systems, mathematics, and modeling. The successful candidate will join a project on developing novel tools for the fundamental understanding and engineering design of networked control systems, with a particular focus on secure control systems in Smart Grids in collaboration with European industry.

The Division of Decision and Control Systems conducts fundamental research in networked control systems, cyber-physical systems, system identification, and transport systems. Industrial projects involve partners such as ABB, Ericsson, and Scania. A major part of the research is conducted in EU projects in collaboration with industry and universities. We have a large academic network and collaborate with researchers at Caltech, MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford, among others.

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:
Admission to third-cycle studies in Electrical Engineering requires the applicant to have completed courses equivalent to at least 120 higher education credits from second-cycle studies or higher in the subject Electrical Engineering or other subjects deemed directly relevant to the specialization in question. These requirements will also be considered fulfilled by applicants who have acquired the equivalent knowledge through other means. Normally, a master’s degree in the relevant research domain fulfills these requirements.
Applicants are expected to be able to read and write scientific texts in English, as well as be able to communicate verbally in English.

In the evaluation of candidates, great emphasis is placed on study results and completed courses. An earlier specialization in control theory and/or mathematics is highly desirable and especially meritorious.
After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
