School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) is one of the five schools of KTH and a strong constellation for research and education in the broader areas of health, environment, energy and materials. The School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health conducts research and education in areas that cover several global challenges. Among them are the need for sustainable energy, health and aging population, climate change, sustainable production and working life, food production and clean water.

Job description

The Cell profiling group (PI Emma Lundberg) at SciLifeLab in Stockholm works on different projects revolving around spatial proteomics for cells and tissues. The group consists of three teams: research, HPA production and the Spatial Proteomics facility, but the teams are interlinked and share a common infrastructure. We are now looking for one research engineer for the facility and one research engineer for the production team.

The production team produces and maintains the subcellular section of the Human Protein Atlas (HPA) with the aim to systematically map the location of all human proteins in cells, tissues and organs. As a research engineer in this team, you will be localizing proteins at the subcellular level in cell lines by using immunofluorescence (ICC-IF) and confocal microscopy. The tasks mainly include laboratory work, but also some analytical tasks. In the lab, you will mainly do cell cultivation, immunostaining and microscopy. The analytical tasks include qualitative image analysis and curation of data for the Cell Atlas. You will work according to established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and document your work in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).

The Spatial Proteomics National Facility is part of the newly established Spatial and Single Cell Biology Platform and part of the research infrastructure at SciLifeLab. The focus of the Spatial Proteomics unit is to offer highly multiplexed immunofluorescence of cells and tissue sections. Currently we work with the latest instruments from Akoya Biosciences (Phenocyler Fusion) Lunaphore (COMET and LabSat). As a national facility, much work will be to perform service projects for external users, but the position also includes internal research and development, for eg validating new antibody panels and development of new methods and protocols. Depending on the background and interest of the applicant, more time can be spent on image data analysis.
