Job description

The successful candidate will conduct research in geometric combinatorics and its interactions with artificial intelligence together with Katharina Jochemko and other members of the mathematics department at KTH. The goal is to investigate questions arising in AI through the lens of geometry and combinatorics and to contribute to a mathematical foundation of AI. Researchers with experience in fields related to any of the following are encouraged to apply: discrete/convex/tropical geometry, geometric/algebraic combinatorics, combinatorial/convex optimization, statistics and  artificial intelligence. The position is a time-limited, full-time, one year position starting in August 2020 or later. The position is financed through the Göran Gustafsson foundation. It includes a limited amount of teaching duties.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree 
• We seek an experienced candidate with a completed PhD degree in an area related to one of the following and an interest in the other areas: discrete/convex/tropical geometry, geometric/algebraic combinatorics, combinatorial/convex optimization, statistics and artificial intelligence.
• The successful applicant will be a highly motivated researcher, capable of working both independently as well as in collaboration with other researchers.
• A strong emphasis will be placed on research expertise, the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with other researchers, teaching ability, as well as awareness and knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

Preferred qualifications

• The successful candidate should furthermore be able to inform about research and development work. The ability to work towards research results being utilized in practice as well as experience of developing and leading activities and staff are a plus.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competence.

About the employment
