Third-cycle subject: Technology and Health
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to pursue a PhD in sensors systems and signal processing in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Health Systems. We conduct research on medical sensor, information and communication systems in health technologies. Candidates with biomedical, mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering profiles and research interests in sensors systems and signal processing are welcome to apply.
The research group aims to establish sensor systems to predict, prevent and cure cardiovascular disease (Link) . We aim to improve people´s cardiovascular health based on the ability to measure, process, and analyze sensor data from the human body. In particular, we develop interactive wearable technology that assists patients with heart failure to exercise and we develop sensor systems to help adapt the operation of heart pumps to the physiological need of the patient. The department is located very close to the Karolinska University Hospital, which helps to achieve a rapid exchange of ideas with medical doctors and patients.
The doctoral student will design novel sensor technologies for cardiovascular applications. The developed technologies will focus on, but are not limited to, the following areas embedded systems, medical instrumentation, signal processing, biomedical robotics, and machine learning. Importantly, the doctoral student will validate the technologies clinically: in patient-specific test benches, based on clinical data, or in clinical studies.
Supervision: Professor Matilda Larsson and Assistant Professor Seraina Dual is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
