The National Spatial Proteomics Facility is a unit within the Spatial and Single Cell Biology Platform, part of the research infrastructure at SciLifeLab, The platform is divided into different units, each providing service within the field of single cell and spatial technologies, for detection of DNA, RNA, porteins and small molecules in cells or tissue sections. The focus for the Spatial proteomics Unit is to offer multiplexed immunofluorescence (mIF) using the latest technology. The instruments in our lab includes both the new Phenocycler Fusion instrument from Akoya Biosciences and the recently launched platform COMET from Lunaphore. Currently, we are the only lab in Sweden with these two instruments.
In addition to service projects the group also conduct their own research within the field of precision medicine, with focus on developing new methods within the spatial omics field and implementation of mIF in precision medicine.
The team consist if 5 people including the Head of unit/PI and is now looking for a post doc to conduct proof of concept projects for using mIF with focus on cancer diagnostics. The research will focus on developing, validating and implementing mIF protocols and to benchmark these towards clinical standard used today. This will be done in close collaboration with our clinical partners at Karolinska Institute and Karolinska Hospital.
As post doctor with Spatial Proteomics you will drive and be responsible for project involving both wetlab, microscopy and image analysis of clinical tissue samples where one central project focus on advanced urothelial cancer (mUC). The project aims are i) Optimize validate and implement antibody panels for mUC using CODEX and/or the COMET platform and ii) evaluate immune cell infiltration and biomarkers in a cohort of mUC that also is art of a prospective clinical study with different chemotherapy combinations, immuno therapies (immune checkpoint inhibitors for PD1/PDL1 blockade) and targeted drugs.
The project goal is to gain deeper understanding of the tumour microenvironment for patients with mUC and what parameters influence treatment responses. This can lead to the development and implementation of individual treatment protocols based on mIF analysis. Apart from the clinical goals of this project the study is an important piece in the long term goal to demonstrate the benefit of mIF for tissue diagnostics with clinic and future precision medicine.
Requirements
To be successful in this role you are a team player with good social competence and communication skills. You can also communicate and transfer your knowledge to your collegues. The project requires that you have a strong motivation, driving force and problme solving ability to independently bring the project forward. You are curious and with an interest for technology development and for the overall goals to implement mIF in clinic. As many groups at KTH we are a multicultural team and we see awareness of diversity and equality related topics as a must.
