Subject description

The subject encompasses knowledge concerning building construction and design of the physical environment, i particular buildings, landscape, cities and the interplay between them, as well as knowledge concerning the historical significance of the subject for societal development in different geographical and cultural contexts. It includes a specialization in sustainable urban design concerning the concepts and theories of the subject area, as well as analysis and design of urban design projects with a sustainability perspective on general as well as specific levels.

Duties

The employment involves mainly teaching in design project courses in the architectural education, basic and advanced levels, or within the master program Sustainable Urban Planning and Design. Work duties include planning and development of courses, teaching, course administration, pedagogic development as well as contacts within KTH and the surrounding society. The employment is part-time 40%. Teaching on basic level will be conducted in Swedish.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as a lecturer are persons who have:

1. been awarded a degree from first-cycle academic education within the subject of the employment or has corresponding competence,
2. professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties it will involve, and
3. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment

The assessment criteria for appointment as lecturer at KTH are stated in KTH's appointment procedure, section 1.5, and apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

• understanding of the field of architecture with a specialization in sustainable urban design.
• documented subject expertise relevant to the content of the employment
• teaching experience from architectural education, specifically architectural design studio courses
• participated in contexts of significance for the development of the discipline and the profession, such as exhibitions, publications, competitions and symposia.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

• documented pedagogic competence in the subject field. The assessment of teaching expertise shall also relate to the person’s long-term ability to develop as a teacher
• documented professional expertise relevant to the content of the employment. 
• digital competence relevant to the subject field
• professional experience outside the university.
• the ability to collaborate with others. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.

It is also important that the applicant has

• skills and experience from research and development works in the subject field shown through, for example, participation in research and development projects, publications, exhibitions or completed postgraduate studies.
• courses in teaching and learning in higher education.
• the ability to pursue third-stream activities.
• the ability to develop and lead activities and interpersonal skills.
• administrative expertise
