Job description

A two-year postdoc position in observational astronomy is available at the Department of Physics, KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The position will involve collaboration with members of the Astronomy Department at Stockholm University.  The departments at KTH and Stockholm University are both a part of the Oskar Klein Centre (OKC, http://www.okc.albanova.se) and located in the same building. The OKC provides a stimulating research environment with a large community working on different types of astronomical transients.

The first year of the position will primarily involve analysis and interpretation of HST observations of SN 1987A. There may also be a possibility to work on JWST observations. The research during the 2nd year is more flexible within the fields of SNe, SNRs and high-energy astrophysics in general, depending on the interests of the candidate. The successful candidate will be encouraged to take part in the supervision of master students and/or PhD students.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree. This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • A strong academic track-record, demonstrated by high-quality publications.
  • Experience of analysis of astronomical data.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Previous experience of working with HST observations.
  • Research experience on supernovae and their remnants, or a closely related field.
  • Teaching ability and experience of supervision.
  • Strong collaborative skills as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
