Job description

The goal of this project is to use a number of artificial-intelligence-based methods, in particular natural-language processing (NLP), to perform a thorough assessment of the literature with the aim of determining synergies and tradeoffs among the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their targets. The focus is on finding more robust and less obvious connections among SDGs. Using SDG 13 on climate action as entry point, the final goal is to develop a framework for data-driven decision making for policy, with the aim of maximizing the synergies within SDGs. The selected researcher will have a joint appointment at the Department of Engineering Mechanics (https://www.kth.se/en/sci/tekmek/institutionen-for-teknisk-mekanik-1.948703) and the KTH Climate Action Centre (https://www.kth.se/climateactioncentre/start-kth-climate-action-centre-1.1085675).

The researcher will become part of the VinuesaLab research group (https://www.vinuesalab.com), where he/she will have the possibility to interact with several related projects dealing with numerical data, and deep-learning models. Furthermore, he/she will also have access to the multi-peta scale supercomputing facilities available at KTH, in conjunction with the Swedish e-Science Research Centre (SeRC, www.e-science.se). Finally, the researcher will become part of the excellent research environment FLOW (www.flow.kth.se).

Research projects within this postdoctoral position will be developed with a variety of partners to the Climate Action Centre, such as international and national agencies working with digitalization and climate action, and the private sector.

He/she will be part of a vibrant multidisciplinary group, and will be able to conduct cutting-edge research with important policy implications. The candidate will be also actively contributing to the digitalization & climate theme at the KTH Climate Action Centre. The candidate will work closely with Profs. Ricardo Vinuesa and Francesco Fuso-Nerini.

Qualifications

A suitable background for this position would be a PhD (completed in the last five years) in Sustainability/Energy Systems or Computer Science with a specialization in data-driven methods, computational methods. In addition to the traditional academic merits, a relevant degreeproject, international experience, and language skills are regarded as advantageous qualifications. Applicants must possess the ability to work independently and perform critical analysis as well aspossessing good levels of cooperative and communicative abilities.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, This eligibility requirement must be met no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Proficient in English language.     
  • Relevant published work in the field of digitalization and/or sustainability and climate action.

Preferred qualifications

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline
  • independence and research leadership.
  • Knowledge on sustainability- and climate- related themes
  • Knowledge on artificial-intelligence-based methods, in particular natural-language processing (NLP)·
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.

About the employment
