Sustainable metals.
The subject includes basic metallurgical studies with a focus on process phenomena that enable a transformation into a more sustainable, environmentally friendly and resource-efficient metal production and its by-products. The subject includes studies of how to create a circularity and a circular economy to support the ongoing and necessary transformation of the metal industry. Focus is on strengthening this transformation within, e.g. the steel, aluminium and copper industries, including industries that produce other metals such as rare earths and other important raw materials. Examples of research areas with a strong connection to sustainable metal production are i) new metallurgical processes, ii) substitution of critical raw materials, iii) reduced impact of harmful materials on society, and iv) optimization of energy needs for high-temperature processes.
