Third-cycle subject: biological physics
Technical development of microscopy is fast and lead continuosly to groundbreaking discoveries in biology and medicine. This has attracted much attention and e.g. the nobel prize has been awarded for the development of technology in both light- and electronmicroscopy during recent years. In our research group, we work with the development of both the microscopy technology and its application.
We have now an open position for a doctoral student and search for a candidate with a strong interest for applied biophysics and biophysical measurement technology. Our research projects concern development of new technology and new methods for applications primarily in cellbiology. We have choosen to study the energy supply in cells as an application for our new technologies. In the doctoral project, mitochondria in cultured cells and tissue will be studied. We want to explore some basic questions about the dynamics of mitochondria in relation to the cell's energy needs, both over time and space. For those studies we need to develop both ultra-sensitive measurement technology and new methods to support studies of fine details and processes in living cells.
Applicants shall have a master degree in physics, engineering physics, biotechnology or medical engineering.
Our research group is located at SciLifeLab (http://www.scilifelab.se) with a mix of physicists, physicians and biologists. At SciLifeLab, we also operate the national infrastructure for super-resolution microscopy.
Supervision: Hjalmar Brismar is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
