Third-cycle subject: Bio-based composite materials for enhancing the sustainability in road infrastructures
We are looking for a doctoral student for a licentiate in highway engineering. In the project, we want to investigate the applicability of lignin in asphalt. Our target is to study lignin-modified asphalt mixtures through a synergetic combination of 3D imaging techniques, based upon X-ray and neutron radiation sources, multi-scale chemo-mechanical testing, and computational modelling. The work is carried out in close collaboration with several partners in Europe and requires very good ability to work independently. Tests campaigns in several facilities will be carried out (Lund University in Sweden, ILL in France, PSI in Switzerland).

We are looking for a candidate with good knowledge in imaging techniques for asphaltic materials and with experience using Python and C++.
Previous experience of experimental campaigns at synchrotron facilities is of advantage.
Strong experimental skills, ability to develop asphalt test setups, as well as to organize and successfully perform the experiments in an asphalt laboratory, is a plus.
Very good English language skills in speech and writing are a priority requirement for the position.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
