School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

The division of Applied Physical Chemistry at the Chemistry department is now looking for a Postdoc who will work together with Prof. Tore Brinck.

The position is located at the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health (CBH) at KTH.

Job description

There is an immediate opening for a postdoc position in modeling electrocatalysis by density functional theory (DFT). The research project is aimed at developing catalysts for electrochemical reactions that are of interest in relation to renewable energy and sustainable development. Catalytic systems that will be considered include crystalline materials, 2D-materials, nanoparticles and single atom catalysts. Characterization of catalysts will involve mechanistic studies as well as the use of DFT based local surface descriptors that are currently being developed in the group. Data from DFT calculations and experimental data will also be analyzed using machine learning (MI) to develop predictive models for catalyst design.

The research will be conducted both independently and in a research team. It will be performed in an active multi-disciplinary scientific environment.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Works in Stockholm, in close proximity to nature
  • Help to relocate and be settled in Sweden and at KTH

  • Good oral and written communication skills in English, since this is required in the daily work.
  • Extensive scientific expertise in the research area.
  • You should also have a high level of independence in your work as well as strong collaborative abilities.

Preferred qualifications

Experience of modeling surface adsorption and surface catalysis using periodic DFT is especially preferred, also knowledge in coding and experience of scientific software development.

It is also preferred if you have:

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, obtained within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
  • Good teaching abilities.
  • Awareness of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality.
