Third-cycle subject: Physics, specialisation Nuclear Engineering
The project aims to develop and experimentally demonstrate future methods to produce uranium nitride fuel. The work will include (i) experimental study to improve and upscale novel methods of nitride synthesis that have so far only been demonstrated in small scale, (ii) theoretical and practical investigations of the chemical interactions affecting yield and purity of the product, (iii) development of methods to introduce dopants such as hafnium, (iv) production of small series of sample pellets and their comparison against reference materials produced by other methods. The work will be carried out at NE fuel lab.
The work will be tightly coupled with H2020 FREDMANS project, include communication and cooperation with project partners, scientific exchange at project meetings and national and international conferences.

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as a doctoral student. The total length of employment may not be longer than what corresponds to full-time doctoral education in four years ' time. An employed doctoral student can, to a limited extent (maximum 20%), perform certain tasks within their role, e.g. training and administration. A new position as a doctoral student is for a maximum of one year, and then the employment may be renewed for a maximum of two years at a time.
