This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE). WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science, read more here.
The research will be conducted in division Biocomposites at the Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology. The post doctor will work directly with Asst. Prof. Yuanyuan Li and co-supervised by Assoc. Prof. Richard Olsson and Assoc. Prof. Haining Tian from Uppsala University.
Electrocatalytic reaction is a green technology for sustainable energy conversion, materials design, environment remediation, and green chemistry, where the role of catalyst is essential. Hierarchical structures combining multi-scale pores are favorable due to combined high specific surface area, mass diffusion in the structure and accessibility to the surface. In nature, biological materials are much more advanced in terms of anisotropic porous structure in addition to its renewable and abundant origins.
The current project aims to develop wood modification strategies to make hierarchical catalysts for electrocatalytic reactions such as water splitting and CO2 reduction. The work will have an experimental focus includes but not limited to wood modification and characterization, electrocatalytic reaction and relative products detection, microscopy techniques, FTIR, NMR, and x-ray scattering.
