School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Physics
Mitigation of climate change requires a realization of ‘green’ synthetic fuels that is contingent on scientific breakthroughs within heterogeneous catalysis. Single-atom catalysts(SAC), or isolated metal ad-atoms on a support, may present a solution. The interest in SAC stems both from excellent catalytic properties and maximized utilization of catalytic metal. However, a lack of understanding of the nature of the catalytic active sites has hindered a rational design of applicable industrial catalysts. Your project will be to establish atomic level understanding of the structure-function relationship of some modified Cu-based model catalysts, relevant in for conversion of CO2 into CO and hydrocarbons. The project will rely on STM, APXPS, and mass spectrometry for in-situ studies of catalytic performanceRead more

This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE,wise-materials.org). WISE funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.
