Third-cycle subject: biotechnology
In the Antibody Engineering and Directed Evolution research group at KTH, we focus on addressing the need for sustainable access to new medical therapies in diseases with unmet need. In addition to discovery of new therapies, a great focus of our group lies within research around the development of large-scale bioproduction, for example, of antibodies and gene therapies based on adeno-associated viruses (AAV) for curing severe diseases. One goal is to make medicines cheaper, more accessible, safer, and potent by improving its production yield and quality through better understanding of the cellular machinery. We are looking for a PhD student who will work with the development of these processes in our team within the research environments GeneNova and AdBIOPRO, together with partners from all over the world. More specifically, the PhD student will work in projects where, with the help of bioinformatics, we try to understand the cellular environment during the production of biological molecules through systemsbiology and, with the help of, for example, Oxford Nanopore sequencing, try to characterize the genetic material that packs into AAV capsids for gene therapy applications. The doctoral student will also work with bioproduction in mammalian cells, as well as purification, quantification and analysis with various molecular biological methods. We are looking for a driven and curious person with experience in bioinformatic analyzes and programming and a great interest in cell biology.
Supervision: Prof. Johan Rockberg and Dr. Magdalena Malm at the department of protein science is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decisions are made on admission
