School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Chemical engineering

The degree project will contribute to the development of more efficient electrolyzers for hydrogen production. Hydrogen gas, produced fossil free by electrolysis, is an important future energy carrier in our energy system and necessary in the manufacturing industry to reduce emissions of green house gases in, for example, steel production. Water electrolysis using anion-exchange membranes (AEMWE) is a new promising technique, which requires the development of new types of membranes and advanced non-noble metal electrocatalysts.

In this project AEMWE will be investigated in collaboration with a world-leading group within water electrolysis at DTU in Denmark. and in total about one year of the total study period will be located at DTU. The doctoral student will be employed at the division of applied electrochemistry at KTH, with about 30 PhD students and seniors doing research in the fields of batteries, fuel cells and electrolytic processes in an international and creative environment. The work will be mainly experimental in character and conducted in close collaboration with researchers in the applied electrochemistry division and at DTU. Read more about the division here.

Supervision: Ann Cornell is proposed to supervise the doctoral student. Decision is made on admission.

What we offer

  • completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle higher education credits, or
  • acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge

The candidate should have a suitable background in chemical engineering, chemistry or similar.

In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6, read more here
