School of Engineering Sciences

Job description

Efferocytosis, elimination of dead cells by phagocytes, involves the removal of mucins from the surface cells by a sheddase, which is activated by the exposure of negatively charged lipids to the outer leaflet of the membrane.

The postdoc candidate will participate in a multidisciplinary study aiming at understanding the molecular basis of the sheddase activation. The postdoc will carry out computational work, using mainly multiscale molecular dynamics simulations. Results from this work will be combined with cryo-EM and fluorescence microscopy experiments, leading to an integrated approach to the study of inherently multiscale processes occurring at the cell membrane.
