School of Engineering Sciences at KTH

Job description

The particle physics group at KTH is involved in the ATLAS experiment at CERN. The main research interests are on measurements of the Higgs boson and in searches for new long-lived particles. We have made significant contributions to the design, construction and commissioning of the Liquid Argon calorimeter pre-sampler and are currently involved in the design of a new detector called the High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) to be constructed the upcoming years and installed in ATLAS in 2029.

The research activity for the research student assistant will be to develop the firmware and software for the HGTD, in particular for the data acquisition. Part of the work will be to generate a datastream which mimics that of the eventual detector, and another part will be on the acquisition, decoding and on-board processing of the data on the readout backend.

What we offer

  • A position at a leading technical university that generates knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.
  • Engaged and ambitious colleagues along with a creative, international and dynamic working environment
  • Experience of detector development as part of a team.
