Job description

The Department of Physics at KTH offers at least four research positions for highly motivated undergraduate students this summer. You will get the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in physics and learn research methodology by working with leading research teams on topical questions. We offer a range of projects in the fields of condensed matter theory, nuclear physics, particle physics, astrophysics and physics of medical imaging. Students will be evaluated according to their qualifications (see below) and the top-ranked student will have the first choice of project. The 2nd ranked student will then get to pick a project from those remaining etc.

Note that these summer projects cannot form a part of a BSc or MSc thesis. They may, however, be in the same research field as a previous of future thesis project.

All projects will be carried out at AlbaNova.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in physics education at the BSc or MSc level at KTH (this includes both the TTFYM and TNEEM master programmes), but you are not in the final semester of the MSc programme. You will have completed at least two years of university studies in Sweden or abroad by June of 2023.
  • You have a good academic track record and a strong motivation for research in physics.
  • You work well independently as well as in collaboration with others.
  • You have good written and oral communication skills in English as it is required in the daily work

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency

The merits of the applicants will be evaluated with respect to have far along they are in their studies, which means that students who are further along in their eduction do not automatically have an advantage. The suitability of an applicant to carry out a specific project in the list will not be considered in the evaluation.

The application should preferably be written in English and include the following:

  • CV including relevant professional experience and knowledge (max 2 pages).
  • Copy of diplomas and transcripts of grades from your previous university studies. This should include completed courses in your ongoing BSc or MSc programme. Translations into English or Swedish if the original documents have not been issued in any of these languages.
  • Cover letter (max two pages) that describes your research interests and motivation for applying. The following information should also be included at the end of the letter: The three projects that you are most interested in (see list), ranked in order of preference; a list of the five courses that you consider to be your best achievement during your studies (provide course names/codes and your grade); the grade point average for all course taken at KTH.

About the employment

The employment is valid for a limited time according to the agreement - for up to two months, with access according to agreement.

The employment is limited to one month of full-time work. There is a possibility to work 50% for two months instead, subject to the availability of the project supervisor.
