Subject description

The subject area aims to clarify the basic physical processes in space around the Earth, the Sun, other planets, moons and other objects within the solar system. This includes analysis, interpretation and modeling of data obtained from instruments, aboard sounding rockets, satellites and space probes.

Duties

The work consists of developing KTH's research as well as teaching at the undergraduate, advanced and doctoral levels within the subject area. The work includes supervising postdocs, doctoral and degree project students and conducting teaching at undergraduate and advanced level at the Department of Electrical Engineering. The tasks include work with data and instrument operation for satellite missions where KTH has contributed with scientific instruments including JUICE and BepiColombo.

The tasks include applying for funding for, as well as participating in the development of the activities in order to take a large role in the design and development of future national and international space projects.

Eligibility

To be eligible for employment as an Associate Professor, the applicant must have:

  1. a PhD degree or have equivalent scientific competence or other professional expertise that is of importance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the duties to be included in the employment, and
  2. demonstrated teaching skills.

Grounds of assesment

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field.
  • teaching skills in the subject field.
  • experience from working in research environments outside KTH.

Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • the ability to pursue third-stream activities and also provide information about research and development work.
  • expertise to develop and lead activities and staff. This includes knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality.
  • interpersonal skills.

It is also important that the applicant has

  • administrative expertise.
