Job description

In your role as a research engineer, you carry out research work on the environmental impact of buildings in a life cycle perspective together with and under the guidance of other researchers at the department. The work takes place in research projects focusing on life cycle assessment of buildings and buildings' climate impact. This includes implementation of automation of data input to LCA software, LCA calculations, environmental impact modeling, analysis of LCA calculations and interactive visualization of the results. Other work tasks include carrying out literature reviews, scientific writing and active participation in ongoing development of environmental assessment methodology for buildings. The projects relate well to ongoing policy development in the area. The research work is conducted in collaboration with construction sector actors in Sweden.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence. 
  • Experience in modeling and calculation of environmental impact from a system perspective.
  • Experience in computational programming and skills in Excel
  • The position involves communication in both English and Swedish both in speech and writing, good English skills are a requirement for the position as well as some ability to also understand Swedish.
  • Good awareness of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality 

Preferred qualifications

  • We like to see that you have completed an environmental or construction-related master's program and that you have taken a number of environmental-related courses at advanced level.
  • Experience of analytical work within research projects with a focus on buildings and their environmental impact is a merit.
  • We also value if you have knowledge of data processing and analysis in Python/R.
  • Furthermore, knowledge of and application of methods in practice for climate calculations or life cycle assessment of buildings is advantageous.
  • We would also like for you to have knowledge of today's construction methods as well as experience with construction planning and work in BIM and digital tools.
  • Finally, previous scientific publication and experience of working in interdisciplinary research projects in collaboration with the industry are meritorious.

We are looking for you with a great interest in the area. As a person, you are quality conscious, structured, have a good ability to work independently and are used to work based on deadlines. You take initiative and have good problem-solving and analytical skills. You work well with others and value collaboration by maintaining good relationships with both internal and external colleagues.
