Job description

As research engineer you will be working together with an international group on the Division of Glycoscience at the Chemistry Department in KTH. The tasks you will participate are part of an EU project SISTERS and CIRCALGAE. You will participate in the bioprocess development for the extraction of valuable compounds from food and algae biomass to be use as additives in food packaging applications, feed, food and cosmetics. The functionalities of the target compounds will be assessed (e.g. antioxidant, antimicrobial, cytotoxicity, or mechanical improvement of the packaging formulations). You will investigate the extraction and downstream processes for the obtention of biobased products and the verification of its properties towards the specific applications. The approach will include the use of green extraction processes, analytical characterization of active compounds and characterization of biological functionalities.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A graduate degree or an advanced level (higher education) in the research subject or equivalent competence.
  • Subject-related skills

  • Knowledge on Bioprocess design for valorization of biomass. Experience with analytical chemistry of bio-compounds and microbiology.
  • A graduate degree in Industrial Biotechnology or related studies. Experience working in research lab. Good communication skills and presentation of results, oral and reports.

    Preferred qualifications

  • Good organizational skills for lab and administration tasks.
  • Experience in the supervision of different research projects and/or students.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal competency.
