Communication systems

Subject description

The subject field of communication systems includes the development of theory, methods, and knowledge in internetworking, communication software and services, network security, wireless systems, and studies of techno-economic aspects within the subject field.

Duties

The work consists of contributing to research and teaching in the subject field. Teaching will initially focus on supervising degree projects and teaching courses on, e.g., Internet technology, wireless systems, and research methodology. In the long term, the associate professor is expected to develop courses and research in new areas, such as cloud-computing-controlled mobile networks and integrated wireless communication, localization, and sensing.

Eligibility

Those qualified for appointment as an associate professor are persons who have:

  1. been awarded a PhD or has the corresponding research competence or some other professional expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, and
  2. demonstrated teaching expertise.

Grounds of assessment 

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., apply in relation to the employment profile laid down.

Of highest importance is that the applicant has

  • research expertise in the subject field demonstrated through, for example, scientific results and publications in conferences and journals of the highest international quality.
  • teaching skills in the subject field.

 Of second highest importance that the applicant has

  • the ability to cooperate with the surrounding society and inform about research and development work.
  • administrative expertise.
  • interpersonal skills.
  • knowledge of diversity and equal treatment issues with a particular focus on gender equality. 

It is also important that the applicant has

  • expertise to develop and manage activities and staff.
