Third-cycle subject: Chemistry
Syrén's research group is recruiting up to two doctoral students in enzymatic synthesis powered by CO2 and LEDs.
With a growing population and a reduction in the available natural resources on our planet, there is a great need for an innovative way of producing sustainable chemicals. The main purpose of this research project is to develop methods for sustainable enzymatic production of added-value chemicals driven by CO2 and LEDs. The position is an opportunity to join the enzyme design and engineering team in Syrén’s group to develop new-to-nature biotransformations by designer enzymes. The research area includes enzyme discovery, sequence-based enzyme design, ancestral sequence reconstruction and development of chemoenzymatic cascades, enzyme technology. Tools for in silico enzyme design will be used to generate designer enzymes that will then be employed in synthesis involving photocatalysis and CO2 for applications within platform chemicals, materials and additives. The work will be placed at the School of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH.
