Job description

The aim of the research project is to develop methods and design a device for acoustic focusing of protein crystals that can be integrated with state-of-the-art nozzles for serial crystallography. The position includes following tasks: development of microfluidic chips, ultrasonic transducers, acoustic cells, flow regulation, and integration of this hardware in existing 3D-printed nozzles for serial crystallography as well as existing microscopes for 2D-imaging of protein crystals. Work will be performed at the division of Biomedical and X-ray Physics (AlbaNova University Center) in close collaboration with the division of Biophyhsics (Science for Life Laboratory), both belonging to the department of Applied Physics at KTH.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree, in applied physics, biophysics, microsystems or related research areas.
  •  Experience and expertise in designing and using microfluidics

Personal skills

  • Working independently and taking responsibility for work
  • Collaborate and communicate interdisciplinary with experts in other relevant research areas. 
  • Creative and hands-on researcher

Preferred qualifications

  • It is meritorious to have experience and expertise in sample preparation, experiments and data analysis of serial protein crystallography
  • It is highly meritorious to have experience and expertise in acoustic manipulation of particles in standing wave systems, ultrasound-related electronics, 3D printing of microfluidic components, as well as microscopy
  • Experience of developing and leading activities and staff 
  • Research expertise
  • Teaching ability and ability to supervise students
  • The ability to work towards research results being utilized in practice
  • The ability to inform about research and development work
  • Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

About the employment
