School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) allow the application of machine learning for the purpose of recognition, prediction, and detection of clinical conditions and diseases, and personalisation of conversational AI to be used in education and health care. Despite the increasing possibilities to implement AI in health care, algorithmic decision-making in various domains has been shown to result to biases, unfairness and discrimination. Marginalized users from different gender, ethnicity and age groups may be excluded from the data and its usage. The project explores the inclusion and exclusion of age in conversational AI by developing and evaluating the performance of conversational AI models in relation to age-specific topics and concerns. The project aims to develop prompt tests for conversational AI models to measure 1) technical performance of AI model in relation to specific age groups (e.g. young adults aged 18-25 in comparison to older adults aged 65 and over) 2) contextual performance of AI model in relation to age-specific topics, such as responding to empathy, creativity, reasoning and conversation in a manner that is appropriate for the ageing population. The work tasks of the research engineer is to conduct a literature review on the metrics on social bias and inclusion from previous studies, design and develop prompt tests to investigate AI model’s adaptation to age-related topics, perform these tests with three AI models (such as LLaMA, GPT-4 and BLOOM), and report the results together with the research team.
