School of Engineering Sciences in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Health at KTH

Job description

The project addresses the challenge of creating and optimising a scalable stirred tank bioreactor based process for the expansion and differentiation of pluripotent stem cells. The project will explore the generation of cardiac tissue with relevance to manufacturing applications. The project will include aspects such as optimization of bioreactor process, support from process analytical technology as well as from omics characterisation. It will be carried out at KTH in Chotteau’s group, Cell Technology group, CETEG, leader in high cell density perfusion for the production of biopharmaceuticals, in collaboration with the company AstraZeneca, Gothenburg, Sweden, within AdBIOPRO, interacting with the Centre’s academic and industrial partners. AdBIOPRO, Competence Centre for Advanced BioProduction by Continuous Processing, is an interactive Competence Center with high focus on multidisciplinary collaboration within academia and industry. AstraZeneca Biopharmaceuticals R&D is continuing to build a new cell therapy department with the goal to establish AstraZeneca as a world-leader in the stem cell field and to build a competitive pipeline within cell therapy across disease areas within Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) and Respiratory and Inflammation (R&I). The cell therapy department will bring together >50 specialists to support the organisation with cell therapy and bioprocessing expertise and capabilities. The new department will be an agile “biotech-like” organisation, with specialists in the department working closely with experts across AstraZeneca to bring to bear the existing and emerging platforms in stem cell technologies, new modalities, universal cell lines, and CRISPR-mediated genome editing. AstraZeneca Gothenburg site is one of AstraZeneca's three strategic R&D centers, Gothenburg site (https://www.astrazeneca.com/our science/gothenburg.html). With more than 2,400 employees from over than 50 countries, the vibrant Gothenburg site is a truly inspiring place to work, where the history and future of scientific breakthrough come together

What we offer
