Autonomous systems, such as self-driving cars, rely on advanced control algorithms to make decisions and navigate complex environments, such as Model Predictive Control (MPC).
However, traditional MPC methods are limited by the accuracy and availability of models. With the increasing availability of sensor data, data-driven MPC has emerged as a promising solution but most current approaches are limited to linear systems. This project aims at breaking the barriers to nonlinear data-driven MPC, by developing tools for nonlinear state estimation (based on differential-geometric methods), novel neural network architectures for mapping past data into optimal controls and efficient experiment design techniques for data collection.
