Job description

Urban growth is intertwined with growing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, especially when we consider that an overwhelming majority of these emissions hail from transportation. Addressing this pressing matter, the EU is targeting a net-zero carbon footprint by the year 2050. Key to this mission is rethinking vehicle design, emphasizing not just lightweight design but also excellent acoustic performance. Recent trends spotlight the potential of composite structures and porous materials. Their low weight and unique sound properties can promote better fuel consumption rates, safety standards, and overall passenger experience. Integrating these materials is part of the scope of the position, seeking to pioneer the next generation of eco-friendly transportation solutions, by implementing multiscale inverse methods targeting vibro-acoustic properties of functional materials.

Qualifications

Requirements

• A doctoral degree or an equivalent foreign degree
• Research expertise
• Good theoretical knowledge in engineering acoustics
• Experience with both numerical methods and measurements

Preferred qualifications

• Teaching ability
• The ability to work towards research results being utilised in practice
• The ability to inform about research and development work
• Experience of developing and leading activities and staff
• Knowledge of diversity and equal opportunity issues, with specific focus on gender equality 
• Collaborative abilities
• Independence
